A historic commitment to recycling
At Riwald Occitanie, we place sustainable development at the heart of all our decisions. Long before recycling became a global priority, Roger Larmande, founder of SAS Larmande — which later became an entity of ArcelorMittal under the name Riwald Recycling — understood the importance of preserving our planet’s natural resources.
It was in a post-war context, where every resource mattered, that Roger began collecting and recycling materials such as rabbit skins, pig bristles, horsehair, feathers, and wool. At a time when nothing was wasted, he laid the foundations of what would become a company committed to the circular economy, well ahead of its time.
In 1962, Roger Larmande identified a new challenge: the recovery and reuse of iron and metals at the Béziers site. This strategic shift marked a major turning point for the company. It then expanded its activities to the recovery and recycling of industrial metals, while maintaining its original expertise in more traditional materials.
This rapid development was built on two pillars: deep field knowledge and strong human values.
